So now Labor Day weekend has come and gone and we’re still waiting for the Aerodrome to open.
The Town says it’s the County they’re waiting for, the County says the Town is being overly cautious and there’s no reason we couldn’t have been flying since last Spring. Frankly, I couldn’t care less who is holding things up. It just isn’t right.
Why do I keep writing these letters? Because this is such a simple situation that should have been resolved long ago, yet it still drags on, and every local resident should know about it and be angry about it. The only reason for the delay that I can hang my hat on is as one leader put it, “that’s how government works.” Well, it’s not how I work. And, it’s not how most people who live in North Hempstead, or New York in general, work. We get things done and we move on. If we just sat and waited for any particular thing to happen, we’d all be out of business.
If there was a contentious issue with reopening the aerodrome that was difficult to work out, say something similar to peace in the Middle East, I might understand needing more time. But this just looks like the Town doesn’t care. I don’t know about you, but it makes me wonder what else the Town is ignoring.
If anyone reading this is willing to help, (hopefully someone in government who knows how to get things done), please contact me or the Hempstead Harbor AeroModelers Society. Thank you.
