Rosie Crucet Valdes-Rodriguez, 75, of Avon, CT died January 26, 2010 surrounded by her family. For 50 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Jorge Valdes Rodriguez, who died in 2008. Born in Havana, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Armando Crucet and Rosa Alcalde. Following the communist take over of that country, in 1961, her family escaped from Cuba to immigrate to the U.S.
After originally settling in New York City, she lived in Manhasset, where she raised her four children. She retired in 1999 with her husband, Jorge, to Surfside, FL where she could enjoy the beach and ocean. As a wife, mother and Mimi, she was devoted to her family, loved to dance, had an incredible zest for life and a wonderful sense of style.
Rosie leaves her children, Rose Ponte of Harwinton, CT, Jorge A. Valdes-Rodriguez and his wife Julie of Norwalk, CT, Alina Douglass and her husband Mark of Avon, CT, Robert J. Valdes-Rodriguez and his wife Regina of New York City; her sister, Ana Palmer and her husband, Ed, of Fort Meyers, FL; and 14 grandchildren, John Thomas, Rosie, Ashley, Tommy, Paul, Luke, Ryan, Conor, Britt, Gavin, Suzy, Robert, Casey and Linda. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jorge, by her mother, Rosa Alcalde, who was an integral part of her life, by her sister, Lillian Gross and son-in-law, John A. Ponte.
