Obituary: Myrla (Wilbur) Roseberry

Myrla (Wilbur) Roseberry, 96, resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody, Mass., died peacefully on September 7, 2013.  Born in Amesbury on April 29, 1917, she was one of four children of the late Arthur H. and Polly G. (Short) Wilbur. She was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1934. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Lowell, her master’s of education from the University of Hyannis, and attended the University of Maine and Harvard University for advanced graduate studies in education.

Myrla began her teaching career in Tyngsboro and Reading, Mass., moving to Manhasset, N.Y., in 1951, where she taught until her retirement in 1989. With her husband, Jack, she was a longtime resident of Huntington, N.Y., where she was active in the Women’s Club, the Garden Club and AARP. She served as Worthy Matron for the Tyngsboro Order of the Eastern Star. She loved children, reading, gardening, flower arranging, decorating, and animals. She was known for her cheerful disposition and sense of style.

She is survived by her niece, Helen L. Wilbur with Christopher Tarle of New York, N.Y.; nephew, David W. Wilbur, father of Stephen, and Thomas of Beverly and his wife, Paulette. She was preceded in death by her husband Elwood L. Roseberry of Huntington, and brothers Wayne, Glenn and Craig Wilbur. She also leaves her sister-in law, Bernadette Wilbur of Haverhill, Mass.; as well as stepsons, John Roseberry of Syracuse, N.Y., and his wife, Malka, and James Roseberry of Albany, N.Y., their children and grandchildren.
