Obituary: June Typermass

A resident of Manhasset for many years, June Typermass passed away peacefully on May 15, 2013.  June was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.  on September 8, 1925 to Rafaella and Michael Ruggieri and was the youngest of their seven children.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband Carl Typermass and five siblings.  She is survived by stepsons Robert and Arthur (Joan), grandchildren David Typermass and Laurie Maggio (Joseph) and three grandsons, John, William and Thomas. Also loving sister Rose Castagna and sister-in-law Rosalie Ruggieri and eleven nieces and nephews.

June was a graduate of Pratt Institute and a professional dietician working in New York City schools and hospitals as well as St. Ignatius of Loyola in Manhattan before marrying Carl Typermass in 1958.  They moved to Manhasset that year and enjoyed thirty years of happiness and fulfillment before Carl’s death in 1988.  June was a member of the Munsey Park Women’s Club and the North Hempstead Country Club, where she was an avid golfer and bridge player with a  group of close friends. She was never without a favored pet, and will be missed by her latest, a frisky Yorkshire terrier named Tiffany.

Her true passions were home and family, and she delighted in her gracious home and resplendent garden.  During Carl’s life, the pair enjoyed frequent travel to Europe and the Caribbean.  At holidays and family milestones, June’s hospitality and bountiful table were memorable occasions.  Throughout all of her years, she was surrounded by a vibrant and caring family.

A funeral Mass took place at St. Mary’s Church of Manhasset on May 21. The Celebrant was Father Vincent Ritchie, who delivered a heartfelt homily in remembrance of June.  Internment followed at Calvary cemetery in Woodside, N.Y.  In her memory, donations may be made to St. Francis Hospital in Port Washington, N.Y.
