Barbara Z. Woodring, 81, of Port Washington, died Sept. 24, 2011.
Barbara was born to Marcel and Francis Zutter, March 10, 1930, in Providence, RI. She graduated from the Northfield School for Girls which is now Northfield Mount Hermon in 1948 and received a BSN in Nursing from Skidmore College in 1952. She married George Woodring later that year, and they raised their family together in Plandome. Barbara was widowed in 1976, and moved to Port Washington in 1981.
Barbara was a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. After her nursing career she was a longtime hospice volunteer where she was able to continue doing what she loved, providing care and advocacy for her patients. She was active in The United Methodist Church of Port Washington and was a member of the church choir. Barbara will be remembered for her many acts of generosity, kindness, and personal dedication to her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by four children: Jeff, of Steelville, PA; Gary, of Long Valley, NJ; Cynthia, of Charlottesville, VA; and James, of Floral Park. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Calvin, Mackenna, Adam, Jason, Steven, and Lauren.
The family is requesting that any donations be made in her memory to Hospice Care Network, 99 Sunnyside Boulevard, Woodbury, NY 11797.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 at The United Methodist Church of Port Washington. The family will be receiving guests at the church before the service, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
