Obituary: Francis J. Sorg (Frank) Jr.

Francis (Frank) J. Sorg Jr. 89, of Scottsdale, passed away on Feb. 3, 2011. He was the oldest and last surviving child of Francis and Emily Sorg, born in the Bronx. He was a successful businessman, financier, philanthropist, and family man. His early days on Wall Street at Sorg (Financial) Printing Co. with his first wife, Florence, of 35 years, he launched a life of adventure as he became involved with non-profit hospitals, politics, the entertainment world, and international businesses.

For many years the family lived in Manhasset and he was the last surviving founding board member of North Shore University Hospital, on Long Island. Frank and his loving wife, Mary Ann, moved to Sedona in 1990, and since relocated to North Scottsdale. He always dreamed of a life in the Southwest. He is survived by Mary Ann and all of his six children -Vicki (Steve Murphy), Jeff (Brenda Madigan), Leslie (Walter Ramsey-deceased), Elizabeth, Wendi (Tony Phelps), Gannon (Barbara Gillis), three step-children, Kristina Rentschler, Ann (Bill Hoyt), Carol Laurie. Frank was a proud grandfather of eight, and a great grandfather of six. He was also a loyal friend to many, even from his school days, and will be greatly missed by his Arizona friends, too. His family will gather in Carefree to remember and celebrate Frank’s life, then lay him to rest in his favorite place on earth, Sedona. A viewing was held at the Christ Episcopal Church Anglican, 35500 N. Cave Creek Rd, Carefree, AZ and a funeral service was held at the church on Friday, Feb. 11.
