Elizabeth Carlo Day, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 23, 2010 after enduring a long illness. Elizabeth was born in Fort Wayne, IN. She was a graduate of the Northampton School for Girls and Smith College, where she majored in Art History.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband Lawrence (Larry) Day of 57 years. Elizabeth and Larry had three children and have lived in Manhasset since 1960.
Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother. She had a real zest for life. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Great Books Club at the Manhasset Library for several years. Elizabeth loved to travel, to visit friends and relatives, and had a special place in her heart for Scotland and England. She and Larry spent a few weeks in Key West every winter. Closely engaged in the lives of her children, she created a friendly and welcoming home environment that was always open to a wide variety of friends of all ages-all of whom felt uniquely accepted and at home in her presence.
She will be greatly missed by all, including her children, Dana Day of Houston, TX, John Day of Mineola, NY and Kimberly Day of Mineola, NY. She is also survived by her sister Mary and brother-in-law Les Bjork of New Bern, NC, sister-in-law Midge Day and Dick Metter, both of Davenport, IA, in addition to nieces and nephews Bruce Mettler, Lorie DeYoung, Larry Day, Bonnie Riddle, Debbie Moloznik, Marge Vickers, and David Bjork.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Manhasset, 1845 Northern Blvd, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, followed by family visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hospice Care Network (Woodbury) or the World Wildlife Fund.
