Philip J. Jehle, 83, a longtime resident of Manhasset, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2010 at his home in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Faustin, Felix, and Augustus. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lee, and by his children, Phil, Lauren, Karen, Donna, and Jeanne. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois (Thwaite) Shaw, age 70, of St. Lucie West, FL, passed away peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL, on March 14, 2010 with her loving husband at her bedside.
She was born in Yonkers and raised in Manhasset. Lois graduated from Manhasset High School in 1957 and Duke University in 1961. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lois moved to the Treasure Coast of Florida with her family in 1979. As a successful realtor, she worked at the Sailfish Point Community in Stuart.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Martin A. Shaw; four children: Vicki Beam, Jim Adams, Anne Tetenbaum, Lucy Fineman, five grandchildren, her brother Edward Thwaite, and many other loved ones.
The family will hold a private memorial with family and friends in their home at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997-5688.
She is survived by her daughter Heather Alexander and son Michael Charles, by two grandchildren Jamie Alexander Principe and Jeffrey Alexander and three great-grandchildren, Mira, Jesse and Jordan.
Maxine Charles was a member of the Sands Point Bath and Tennis Club, the Village Club, Flower Hill Women’s Club and the Sisterhood of the Community Synagogue in Sands Point.
Burial was private. Shiva was observed at the home of Heather and Stuart Alexander in Stamford, Connecticut on March 14. Contributions can be made to the UJA Federation of New York.
Married high school sweetheart, Alden Fiertz ’48, raised three sons, resided 20 years in Germany and Switzerland, earned a law degree at age 55, and served on numerous Woodstock, VT area community boards, Bev Fiertz lived life fully during her 78 years that concluded on Monday, March 8. She successfully fought various ailments over the past years, but unexpectedly died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center during heart surgery.
The daughter of Margaret and Edwin Fowle, Bev was born in Flushing, NY on May 6, 1931, and grew up in Manhasset. A proud member of Manhasset High School ’49, she graduated from Wheaton College (MA) in 1953. In 1954, she married Alden Fiertz, who she had met in ninth grade French class. After she gave birth to three sons, the family moved from Ramsey, NJ to Duesseldorf, Germany in 1968, to Lausanne, Switzerland in 1972 and then to Geneva in 1979. Later, frustrated by the exploitation of several female friends by the legal system, she decided to fulfill a long-standing desire to become a lawyer even though it had been 30 years since she attended college. Bev graduated in 1986 from Vermont Law School, the first of ultimately many senior students. She always appreciated the warm reception from her classmates, despite their differences in age and experience.
Maureen Elizabeth Kirsten, born June 1, 1934, in Manhasset, died Feb. 15, 2010, in Denver, CO, following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John J. Jacobs, Sr. and Adeline Cecilia Clougherty Jacobs of Boston, MA, and by her husband of 36 years, Otto Clifford Kirsten Jr.
She is survived by brothers Phillip M. Jacobs (Alison) of Long Island; and Jack Jacobs Jr. (Hilda) of Florida; her daughter, Boots Gifford, Denver, CO; sons David Lawrence Kirsten (Frances), Lakeside, CA; and Richard Carl Kirsten (Judith), NJ; grandsons Jason Standiford (Christie), Bozeman, Montana; and Dane Gifford, Papa, Hungary; Anthony Kirsten, USN, Albany, NY; Robert Kirsten, New Jersey; granddaughter Erica Kirsten, New Jersey; cousins Lorraine Esterhill, CA, and Jacqueline Smith, FL; and stepdaughters Sharon Martinez and Barbara Johnston, NM.
Patricia Findaro-Uralli entered eternal life on Feb. 11, 2010 at her home of 47 years in Manhasset. Loving daughter of the late Hannah Harold and the late Anthony Paduano. Beloved wife of the late pediatrician Dr. Joseph Findaro who she met in 1952 as a registered nurse at Flushing Hospital where she specialized in the care of premature babies. Also a devoted wife of the late Samil Uralli from Istanbul, Turkey.
Dorothy Mae Hinkle, nee Hearon, of Plandome, passed away on Feb. 12, 2010, at the age of 87. Her family will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her husband, Harry H. Hinkle, her three children, Paul Hinkle of Baltimore, MD, Karen Brooks of Albertson, and David Hinkle of Sinking Spring, PA, and her seven grandchildren: Travis Hinkle, Jennifer Hinkle, Valerie Hinkle, Harry R. Hinkle, Rachel Brooks, Claire Hinkle, and Paige Hinkle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Neva Louise Hearon, nee Foree, her father, Travis Hearon, both of Fort Worth, Texas, her brother, William Travis Hearon, and her sister, Mary Louise.

Bonnie Lea Soldano, of Port Washington. died on Feb. 8, 2010. Beloved wife of Angelo. Loving Mother of Nick, Linda and Steve. Cherished grandmother of Christopher, Courtney, Patience, Cristina, Angela and Jack.

Mark J. De Bellis of Cicero, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 28, 2010, at the age of 48. Mark was raised in Manhasset and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1979, then graduated SUNY Brockport in 1986, with a degree in economics. Mark remained in the Syracuse area where he worked as an automotive finance manager and married the love of his life and proudly raised two daughters.
Mark was very active in the Cicero community where he was a religious education teacher and teen mentor. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, true friend and a kind neighbor. His enthusiasm, laughter, and generous spirit will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Michelle Efimenko De Bellis; daughters Alyssa and Brittany; brother Henry De Bellis of Port Jefferson: sister Kathryn De Bellis Sullivan, of Manhasset; brothers-in-law Marc Efimenko and Andrew Efimenko, as well as nieces and nephews.

Rosie Crucet Valdes-Rodriguez, 75, of Avon, CT died January 26, 2010 surrounded by her family. For 50 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Jorge Valdes Rodriguez, who died in 2008. Born in Havana, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Armando Crucet and Rosa Alcalde. Following the communist take over of that country, in 1961, her family escaped from Cuba to immigrate to the U.S.
After originally settling in New York City, she lived in Manhasset, where she raised her four children. She retired in 1999 with her husband, Jorge, to Surfside, FL where she could enjoy the beach and ocean. As a wife, mother and Mimi, she was devoted to her family, loved to dance, had an incredible zest for life and a wonderful sense of style.
