Written by Elizabeth Johnson, firstname.lastname@example.org Thursday, 31 October 2013 00:00Thursday, Oct. 23, was a big night in Manhasset. Munsey Park Village held a meeting regarding the radio tower erected by the Water District (story page 10) and the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer held its Annual Ladies Night Out at Leonard’s Palazzo 555 (formerly Leonard’s of Great Neck).
The Ladies Night event, which is always well attended, had the additional excitement of United States Secret Service delays brought about by Bill Clinton’s appearance at a fundraiser for Tom Suozzi at the same venue.
Northern Blvd. was backed up for miles as Manhasset women tried to enter the Leonard’s parking lot. Attendees were detained up to 45 minutes before being allowed to enter the facility. “I thought it was unusual that half the room was empty when the dinner started," said Caroline Kenlon, a coalition volunteer. About 500 women attended the event, which is typically sold out each year.
Tara LaSalle, co-chair of the event said they didn’t know that another event was being held at Leonard’s until that night. “The Coalition hasn’t held a dinner there in a while [Leonard’s].” Later during the dinner, Tom Suozzi came down to speak to the ladies and apologize for the delays.
