Apple Store To Gain New Neighbors

Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams

And Charles Schwab Move In

Manhasset residents will want to pull up a seat—or maybe a couch or a coffee table—later this fall when Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams comes to town.

The 24-year-old furniture brand, specializing in stylish, comfortable and value-conscious furniture and home goods, will be opening an outlet next to the popular Apple Store at 1900 Northern Boulevard.

“We are thrilled to be opening up in the nicest, most prestigious shopping area in all of Long Island,” said Mitchell Gold, chairman and co-founder. “It is clear why this location is one of America’s top five shopping destinations.”

Gold + Williams supplements its furniture offerings with lighting, accessories, and a wide variety of wall art.

Both animal lovers, the eponymous owners welcome furry friends. Dogs are always allowed to enter and walk around on a leash. “In our stores, we’ve come to realize that those people who take their dogs out generally have well-behaved pets,” said Gold.

The designers encourage parents to bring their kids, too, because with all the family rooms designed today, comfort is key. He says it’s important for children to be comfortable watching television, playing games. The business has a furniture collection called Dr. Pitt that kids love to jump into—it’s a big sectional, but with ottomans built at different heights to create a sort of play-pen, media-room appeal. “Often it’s the kids that help their parents make decisions, especially for higher-style media room furniture,” Gold noted.

Manhasset Press asked Mitchell Gold how the company differs from local favorites like Crate & Barrel, Ethan Allen or Restoration Hardware.  “Our styling offers a very easy, modern sensibility which makes the decorating process an easy one,” Gold responded. “The [online room vignettes] get duplicated in the store so that a customer who has looked through the pages and decided he/she likes a particular room can then come meet with our design associates, who are trained to help them fit that into their own house. Leave a chair, add a chair, make a sectional bigger, smaller—whatever is needed.”

The furniture seen in the catalogue or in store can usually be delivered within a week to 10 days. If requesting custom upholstery, delivery typically takes up to six weeks. Gold assured Manhasset Press that those time-frames are very fast for a company making the quality and styling levels on which Gold & Williams prides itself.

The company’s design associates all have formal interior design training, all of the staff go through training at their North Carolina factory so they can see how the furniture is made. Members of the design team meet with their marketing team, as well as owners Mitchell and Bob. “It’s important to us that everyone receive a thorough understanding of the DNA of our company, and I don’t know many other retailers that do this,” confirms Gold.

They are committed to overseeing the ins and outs of their all-American business. They both reside only 13 and 25 minutes from the factory headquarters in Taylorsville, North Carolina where they operate from a 600,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility – which makes all of their upholstery as well. They know one another 27 years and the company will celebrate its 25th  year anniversary in 2014. This store opening will be either the 18th or 19th store –depending on whether the Paramus, NJ store opens before the Manhasset store.

Charles Schwab is also opening its offices in the new building. Ken Lynn, manager of the current Great Neck location says “We are expecting to open at our new location on Oct. 28”.  The sign is on the building and the firm will occupy the first floor.  Look forward for more details to come.
