Though the start of school sports season is just a few weeks away, the main stadium field is under construction. The turf field has been removed as well as the track surrounding the field. The original track which was installed in 1990 has exceeded its useful life and is the only remaining capital improvement project approved by voters in May 2010 proposition as part of the Capital Reserve Fund.
The improvements are part of the district’s previously approved capital project to install a new track and reconstruct the D zones, the areas behind the end zones of the stadium field. The initial targeted date for the installation of the track was summer 2012. The project was delayed until funding from community groups was in place for the stadium returfing, so that the community’s inability to access the track and stadium field would be limited to only one summer.
Funding for the returfing project of $506,250 was provided by the Manhasset PAL ($165,00), the Manhasset Soccer Club ($91,250), the Manhasset Booster Club ($50,000), the Diane Whipple Foundation ($10,000) and the Indians Rock Foundation ($50,000), as well as a New York State Legislative Community Capital Assistance Program (CCAP) grant ($130,000), and a donation from the MSG Varsity Network ($10,000).
The construction continues and will hopefully be concluded before the upcoming school year.
