The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, 48 Shelter Rock Rd., Manhasset, will present the Annual Messiah Sing at 1:30 p.m. The congregation’s 45-voice choir invites the public to join in the performance of selected portions of this great masterwork by George Frederic Handel. The orchestra of Shelter Rock, assisted by organist Christopher Creaghan, will accompany the choral selections. The performance will take place under the baton of conductor Stephen Michael Smith. Active Seniors of Manhasset meets every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in rented quarters at the Unitarian Church on Shelter Rock Rd. Phyllis Becker is its director and leads the group in its activities including luncheons at local restaurants. Because many of the group no longer drive, bus transportation is available. Bus pickup is at one’s house. Call Mrs. Becker at 365-8493 to be included. Meetings are in a bright cheery room and desserts and beverage are offered. Bring your own sandwiches. Get up card groups for bridge and other games, bingo and board games. This is a chance to get out and make new friends and keep up with the old ones. If schools are closed for snow days, meetings won’t be held.

The Board of Commissioners of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire and Water Districts will meet each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and the first and third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (through Dec. 31) to discuss the weekly business of the district. Will present its 20th Annual Christmas Concert at the Congregational Church of Manhasset, Northern Blvd., at 4 p.m. This year’s program will open with the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah and the Hallelujah chorus. The chorus, includes long time Great Neck resident Nancy Corn who has enjoyed her participation as a soprano with this enormously talented choir for 9 years. The choir and soloists will be conducted by Craig Tocher and accompanied by organ and strings. Featured performers include organist Judith Feuss and , Molley Davey, soprano, Melissa Maravell, contralto, Robert Horowitz, tenor, and Jason Hendrix, baritone. The second half of the program will feature Gloria by John Ness Beck, A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas and a surprise humorous work by P.D.Q. Bach. Solo and ensemble works also will be sung by choir members. The festivities will end with a rousing audience sing-a-long, accompanied beautifully by organ and strings.

The 2010 Manhasset SCA Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations for the 2010-2012 term. The three positions open for nomination are executive treasurer, middle school president and Munsey Park president. Each of the positions serve a two-year term.
