On Wednesday May 1, The Manhasset Proponents for School Accountability (MPSA) will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. in the Manhasset library to discuss the real estate tax increase. The topics covered include the struggle for an effective tax cap, the role of unions in Manhasset education, the role of the board of education, and repercussions of the tax increase. Manhasset Art Association will host “The Spring Show” at Jericho Public Library, One Merry Lane, Jericho, New York 11753. The exhibit will feature a variety of media, including photography. A reception that is open to the public is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2013 between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Awards for Best in Show, Excellence and Merit and Honorable Mention certificates will be issued. The Women’s Club of The Congregational Church of Manhasset will hold its annual Spring Luncheon at 12 Noon in the church’s North Lounge. Luncheon reservations must be made with Valerie at the church office (516) 627-4911 by Wednesday, May 1st. There is a suggested $10 donation for the luncheon. At 1 p.m., Ryan Torres, Horticulturalist for the Town of North Hempstead and Director for Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson, will be the guest speaker. The church is located at 1845 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset. The community is cordially invited to attend the luncheon and/or the program.
Informational Q&A session on women’s health topics at the Manhasset Public Library at 7:30 p.m. Topics will include ovarian cancer detection and prevention; birth control usage and safety and general gynecological issues. Temple Judea of Manhasset welcomes Ron Schweiger, authority on the lore of New York City and the borough of Brooklyn, from 2-4 p.m. He will take all on a nostalgic journey to the early days of Coney Island, Brighten Beach, Sheepshead Bay, and Ebbets Field.
