The Long Island EDGE Pee Wee Major Team won the New York State Championship in Newburgh, NY on March 15 with a tight 2-1 victory over the Hudson Valley Polar Bears. The team's path to the championship included an exciting semifinal victory over the Southtown Stars based out of Buffalo in a 3-2 victory that was determined by a 12 round shootout. The Pee Wee EDGE team, which is based out of the Port Washington Skating Academy, includes several boys from Great Neck, Manhasset, Mineola, Port Washington and Syosset who represent the Long Island Amateur Hockey League. After winning the state championship, the EDGE represented New York in the USA Amateur Hockey Championships in Indian Trails, North Carolina April 1-5. After two tight wins against the Pittsburgh Huskies (Shootout 1-0) and Massachusetts South Shore Dynamos (3-1), the EDGE was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the nation's third ranked San Jose Sharks. The EDGE had a fantastic season and should be proud of its accomplishments. The EDGE parents give a big thank you to the outstanding coaching of Phil Camaratta and his son Matt, and to Fred Nielson for all of his support throughout the season. Also thank you to the team managers, Lisa Trivigno and Steve Kirsch.
