The Manhasset Middle School Hockey team concluded a successful 2009 season by finishing in third place in the Nassau County Hockey League. The team won five of its last six games to finish ahead of local rivals Garden City, Cold Spring Harbor and Port Washington. Leading the team was eighth grade captain Michael Fahey. Fahey centered a high scoring line that included his brother Patrick and Michael Brzozowski. The all seventh grade line of John Paul Young, Andrew Stingi and Ryan Kiess scored big goals and played punishing defense all season long. Key contributions on the forward lines also came from Evan Pritsiolas, Joe Blando, Matthew Cecchini, Demetri Kyriannis, Mario DeBueriis and Yanni Ziozis. The defense was led by Brian Lynch and Peter Gray. Brian and Peter continually shut down the opposition's top line and added valuable offense to the team. Also playing strong defense was Andrew Gray, Paul Majewski, Nolan Behringer and Jack Brennan. Goalie Nicolas Salerno added spectacular play in big spots. Congratulations to the team and a special thank you to its hard working and always supportive coach Kevin Smith.
