We are seventh graders from Mrs. Gershkowitz's St. Mary's religion class. Recently we helped a local family in need.
It all started when our religion teacher received an email about a local family that needed a bicycle. Mrs. G. researched further and realized that the family needed much more than a bike. We decided to help out. We didn't realize what a chain reaction we were starting. We thought we would get some food for the family. We sent emails and made fliers. Our emails were forwarded and neighbors started to drop off food and clothing. One lady showed up the same day we sent out the fliers and gave us a ton of money. She had suffered a tragedy and wanted to help someone else. One of the things we asked for were gift cards to the supermarket. It turned out that our emails were being forwarded and forwarded. Within two weeks we collected over three carloads of food and clothing and $1,400 worth of gift cards to the supermarket and drugstore. We got new clothing as well as used. Someone even donated a PlayStation. We were so proud of ourselves but we just want to thank all the members of our community who helped out and donated. We can't list everyone's name but we hope you read this and know that you touched a family's heart. We think that some day this family will help out another family when they can and we hope to keep helping others.
Thank you so much: Melissa Dorogoff, Stephanie Rohn, Ryan Lennon, Daniel Gershkowitz, Tara Belinsky, Olivia Belinsky, Benjamin Borgognone, Jacklyn D'Alleva, Andre Clejan, Mari-Catherine Gillis, Sean Barry, Brooke Fera, and Tommy Gaffney (Manhasset Middle School students).
