Library Director Marion Robertson is up to her elbows in finance as she prepares for the 2009-2010 Manhasset Public Library budget hearing to be held Tuesday, March 31. The community is invited to attend.
On April 7 the community will vote on the budget, and for an open trustee position. Trustee Seval LaRocca submitted her resignation in July, after which the board approached several individuals to fill out her term, but, while interested, the individuals did not have the time to dedicate to the position. On Feb. 9 the board appointed Elisa Paone to complete LaRocca's term. Therefore, Paone will run in April as the incumbent trustee.
In 2007, following the April elections, Trustee Carol Ascrizzi tendered her letter of resignation effective June 19, 2007, at the close of the library board meeting. To complete the term of office vacated by Ascrizzi, at the library board meeting on July 10, 2007, the trustees appointed Heidi McNamara for a term that expired June 30, 2008. McNamara ran unopposed in April for a five-year term.
Any resident wishing to run for library trustee must file a petition on or before March 9. Director Robertson said they are available in her office, generally between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Current library trustees (with dates their five-year terms expire) are: James E. Pelzer (2010); Richard Tortora (2011); Frank Hone (2012); and Heidi McNamara (2013).
Library Director Robertson said she has "no definite resignations" from any of the existing trustees.
