St. Mary's 7th grade girls (Connolly/Glynn) have completed the league season with a record of 11-1 by beating St. Boniface 32-23. The girls have been outstanding all year demonstrating unselfish play and a relentless defense. The team is composed of the following girls: Lizzie Bunger, Angelica Cramer, Sara Vidal, Kelly Kenlon, Stacey Rubertone, Natalie Stefan, Abby Kucharzcyk, Emily Koufackis, Julia Glynn and Kelsey Connolly.
St. Mary's 4th grade boys, coached by John Kenlon, used a run and gun attack against a very tough St. Aidan's team. Danny Hedberg led all scorers with 12 points followed by Doug Dreyer and Jack Kenlon with 8 apiece. Kyle Murphy, Sammy Foglio and Adam Smotkin dominated the boards while Justin Blanche, Jack Hance and Jack Tortora got the running game going with quick outlet passing and aggressive defense.
The St. Mary's 7th grade B Division boy's team coached by Roberts, Ferraro and Hayes moved to 4 and 3 after an exciting win over Notre Dame of New Hyde Park at their packed gym last Wednesday night. Tied at 48 after the buzzer sounded for regulation, the boys stepped it up in OT with a barrage of driving lay-ups and foul shooting to pour in 11 points and pull away 59-54 against an excellent ND team. Scoring was led by James Roberts, Tommy Hayes, Michael Picone, Mark Vicklund, Michael Santos, David Cole, Michael Ferraro and Chris Ferraro. Key defensive plays by Chris Ferraro and Hunter Bines added greatly to the win as Mark Vicklund, David Cole and Michael Ferraro controlled the boards. Kenny Joseph and Henry Griffith were on IR and the team hopes for them to be back after the break. The team resumes its schedule Jan. 24 at 7:15 p.m. at Saint Catherine's of Franklin Square.
