Mavis Poole Clement died on Nov. 22, 2008 at the age of 89 at Syosset Hospital of complications of Parkinson's Disease. The longtime resident of Manhasset and Brookville was the wife of the late Karl G. Clement, mother of Ronalie Peterson and Karla Clement and grandmother of Julia Rose Herbst, and also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was tirelessly aided through her long Parkinson's struggle by Valentine Shek.
An avid golfer, she was nine-time women's champion of Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove and won many titles around the country over many years. She was also active at Shinnecock Hills Country Club on Long Island and the Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas.
Early in WWII, she briefly joined a group of women aiding the war effort by flying new planes from Moncton, Nova Scotia in Canada to air bases in the United States.
Arrangements by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home Glen Cove. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery on Nov. 25. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.

Eileen Magee Shaughness, cherished wife, mother, and sister, died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 12, 2008 succumbing to brain cancer. She battled her illness with indomitable spirit for nearly nine years. Her awe inspiring bravery, tenacity and grace during this period surprised no one.
Eileen, one of 13 children of the popular Plandome Magee family, is survived by husband George and three sons, Kevin, Neill, and Craig. Also survived by her father Patrick, her seven sisters Kathleen, Maureen, Theresa, Tara, Sheila, AnnMarie, and five brothers; Jimmy, Kevin, Brian, Patrick and Michael.
Eileen enjoyed successful careers and participation in community and national affairs. But her home was the center and joy of her life. Her friends and family will always remember her smiling, bright blue, Irish eyes, vibrant red hair and hearty laugh. Eileen inspired us all with her uncompromising honesty and life-time loyalties.
The family is requesting donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Manhasset on Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. Immediately after will be a gathering to celebrate Eileen's life, at the Prime View restaurant in Port Washington.
Bob Breslin, young usher at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn who grew to manhood in the Philippines during World War II, raised his family in Manhasset and in turn watched them raise their families from his Garden City home, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Nov. 17, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Joseph's RC Church in Garden City on Nov. 20.
Bob Breslin was born in 1922, graduated from Brooklyn Prep in 1940 and enrolled in Fordham University. After three years at Fordham, he enlisted in the Army and was sent into combat to the Philippines. He was awarded five medals, various combat and victory medals. He qualified as an expert with a rifle and .30 caliber automatic machine gun. After returning from service in 1946, he graduated from Fordham in 1947 with a degree in history. In April of 1948, he married Betty O'Brien and began their 60 years of love and devotion. Bob Breslin was very active in the Manhasset community and Saint Mary's Church. Breslin was President of The Holy Name Society and later one of the first Lectors at mass. He was also elected President of the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club. With his love for sports, he coached many PBC teams including the 1963 undefeated Manhasset Peanuts football team.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth O'Brien Breslin, his children Mary Elizabeth Mathers (Allen) of Garden City, Robert Jr. (Dana) of Wallingford, PA, Edward (Kathleen) of Plandome Heights and William Breslin (Elizabeth) of Garden City; grandchildren Christina Roberts (Jason); Matthew (Jill), Sarah and Amanda Mathers; Kathleen, Michael, Kate, Christopher, Maggie and Mary Kate Breslin; great-grandchildren, Ava and Matthew Roberts; and will meet his daughter, Sally Breslin, who went on before him last year.
