It has been a remarkable year for a group of Manhasset third-grade soccer players. The girls recently won the top division of the prestigious Syosset Soccer Tournament, which officially makes them the best team in their age group on Long Island. This is the first time a team from Manhasset has ever won this tournament and the girls have now won their last six tournaments including the HBC Peter Renzulli Cup (which attracts teams from around the country and is now in its 31st year), the Rough Riders Independence Cup, the Dix Hills Tournament and the Commack/Covanta Tournament. The team is currently top of the Syosset Pre Travel league.
The girls' unbeaten run against other town teams of their own age is now 41 games (36 wins, 5 ties) ... and they are still looking for a goalkeeper! Over the winter, the team has been invited to participate in regional tournaments in New Jersey and will be appearing on live television at half time during a St John's NCAA game.
