The Friends Academy girls varsity golf team had an outstanding season. Senior Katie Scialabba says, "With all players returning and new experienced players joining the team, a successful season was in our future. Three of the new players played in matches in three of the top six spots. After defeating the first place, undefeated Jericho team, the Friends players had a surge of confidence and proceeded to defeat three out of four teams in two triple headers."

Finishing in third place for the division, the entire team made it to Counties for the first year, as opposed to qualifying as individuals. Everyone played well at the county tournament, especially junior Alyssa Ciardullo who finished sixth, qualifying for New York States and making All County and All State, and Katie Scialabba, who finished 10th, assigned the alternate player for States and also making All County.

The Friends Academy boys golf team also had a strong team and a very successful season. There were nine varsity players: Spencer Wolf, Hiro Narita, Russell Holmes, Jason Sugarman, Andrew Schlenger, Ben Aronow, Hunter Gambino, Peter Scialabba, Jordan Woldenberg, and three JV players, Zach Cantor, Rob Gelfand, and Connor Dooley.

Coach Rick Sullivan says, "Playing in the most competitive conference in the County, the varsity had a regular season record of 5 wins and 5 losses. The team placed all six of its starters on the All-County team-Russell Holmes, All County; Peter Scialabba, Honorable Mention; Jason Sugarman, Honorable Mention; and Jordan Woldenberg, Spencer Wolf and Hiro Narita, All Conference. These six qualified individually for the All-County tournament both as a team as individuals.

"In the County tournament Jason Sugarman made the cut to play in the States, scoring 156 over two days. Only nine golfers of the 150 competitors make the cut. Russell Holmes ended the tournament in a tie for ninth place and won in a sudden victory playoff against a good Garden City player, hitting from the sand to put the ball within inches of the cup.

"On May 30, Russell and Jason played in the NYS tournament at Cornell University where 99 players from all over the state compete. Jason came in 31st and Russell was in the top 50."
