In 1972, on its 50th anniversary, the prestigious journalistic organization known as "The Inner Circle" named Joe Famiglietti its president. John V. Lindsey (right) was mayor at the time.

Joseph (Famm) Famiglietti, acclaimed journalist and loving father "Joe Famm," age 92, has passed away. Joe started out as a copy boy for the New York Daily Mirror and with tenacity and love for the news he was awarded his own by-ine and daily political column. One of Joe's many daring accomplishments was back in 1946 when Italian born U.S. mobster Lucky Luciano was being deported. Joe donned a custom agent's uniform and because he spoke fluent Italian did a one- on- one interview with the famed mobster. When the Mirror folded, Joe became New York City Hall Bureau Chief for WABC Radio. From print to on-air personality, he made the transition with ease and grace. At the time of Joe's passing, he was the oldest living member of the New York Press Club and also one of its original founding members. In 1972, on its 50th anniversary, the prestigious journalistic organization known as "The Inner Circle" named Joe its president. John V. Lindsey was Mayor and the show titled "The Golden Touch" was presented on April 15, 1972 at the New York Hilton. For reasons known to many of the old-timers, this inner circle show will always be among the best and one that will never be forgotten. Joe now joins his loving wife of 60 years, Pamela, who passed away June 11, 2008. The family lived in Manhasset roughly from 1955 to 1985 where the children attended Munsey Park Elementary School and Manhasset High School. Surviving Joe is his only son, Jeffrey, loving daughter, Jill, loving daughter-in-law Becki, and the light of his life, granddaughter Madison Danielle Famiglietti.

Graveside services with military honors were held at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008.

Lorne & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
