Obituaries
Thomas Joseph Garrick Jr., age 73, of Manhasset, formerly of Bay Ridge, died on July 8, 2008. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Dee Dee. He is survived by his children, Gayle Dahlman, Marcie Zack (Jon) and Thomas III, his grandchildren, Jacob, Jillian and Amy, his sisters, Dorothea and Kathryn and many nieces and nephews. Services were private.

Michael S. McLaughlin died on Sunday, July 13, 2008, peacefully, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Orlando, Florida on May 12, 1945 to William and Ruth McLaughlin. Michael graduated from Villanova University in 1967, with a BS in economics, and later with an MBA from St. Johns University. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1968. He was designated Naval Flight Officer in April of 1969. Michael was in Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 533. In 1970 he was promoted to Captain and was a Bombardier Navigator for the A-6 Intruder. He spent 13 months in Japan, and 5 years in the USMC. After that Michael spent 25 years working on Wall Street as a bond broker for firms Chapdelane, Cantor Fitzgerald, Fundamental Brokers Inc, Brokerage Corp. of America, Liberty Brokerage Inc, and finally Tullet and Tokyo. He also worked for Prudential as a financial advisor. Michael was a loving and devoted husband and father, wonderful son and brother and very accomplished in all that he did. He was an avid tennis and paddle tennis player playing in tournaments all over Long Island. In 1998 he and his family relocated to North Carolina where Michael took up golf.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cynthia McLaughlin; two sons, Brendan and James McLaughlin of Morrisville, NC; children from a previous marriage, Jennifer, Michael and Amy McLaughlin of New York; his mother and father, Ruth and William McLaughlin of Louisville, KY; his brother, William McLaughlin and his wife, Mary and family of Cary, NC.

A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, NC. A graveside service will be held at noon, Friday, July 18, 2008, at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

The family would like to thank Dr. William Berry and staff at Cancer Centers of North Carolina for the wonderful care they gave Michael over the past 10 years and to Hospice of Wake County for their sensitive and loving care in Michael's last days.
