The Town of North Hempstead recently honored three of Manhasset High School's track and field stars -Kadeem Howell, Patricia McNish and Jasmine Blocker - for their outstanding athletic accomplishments.

"Not only is it fantastic to see such amazing talent in track and field," said Supervisor Jon Kaiman, "but the fact is that these young competitors are raising standards by setting these new records. They give this sport a whole new dimension in our town."

Senior Kadeem Howell competed in the triple jump. Jumping 46 feet, 7," he made All-American in Indoor Track and Field. He was a finalist at the Penn Relays in April and won the St. Anthony's Invitational as well as the Locks Games at White Plains, one of the most prestigious meets on the East Coast. Kadeem will be entering SUNY Albany in the fall.

Patricia McNish, a junior, won the Nassau County Championship in both the triple and long jump events. She also placed second in the 100 meter high hurdles. In addition, she qualified for the State Championship in Buffalo.

Jasmine Blocker won the 100 meter and the 200 meter races. She won the 200 meter only 15 minutes after placing 2nd in the 400 meter race. Jasmine set another Manhasset High School track record with a new time in the 400 meter event of 56.1 seconds. This record qualified her for the State meet, a truly amazing accomplishment for a high school sophomore.

Councilwoman Maria-Christina Poons noted, "I was very proud to honor these wonderful young and talented people for their brilliant achievements. On behalf of our town, I congratulate them again and wish them our very best."
