Pamela Sharpe Famiglietti, a longtime resident of Delray Beach, FL, was born April 4, 1919 and died June 11, 2008 peacefully at Delray Medical Center after a long illness.
Pamela was born in NYC at the New York Nursery and Children's Hospital. She attended Mrs. Gardeners School and after graduation spent two years of further study in London, England. When she returned, she lived with her parents at their country home in Pelham, N.Y.
She married Joseph H. Delano at Greenwich, CT in 1939 and had three children, Sterling P., Joseph S., and Harry A.
She married Joseph Famiglietti, a columnist for the N.Y. Daily Mirror in 1950 and had two children, Jeffrey and Jill Ann, spending 25 years in
Manhasset, Long Island, NY. During that time she was an active member of various organizations to help handicapped children and was president of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children.
Pamela also modeled for numerous charitable events at Lord & Taylor.
She is survived by her husband Joseph of 59 years, all of her children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. All dearly loved her and her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Mary E. O'Brien, a former resident of Manhasset, passed away on June 3, 2008 at the age of 91.
Mary was born in 1916 and was one of five children raised in Manhattan by her parents, Annie and Charles McGloin, of County Leitrim, Ireland. She graduated from Julia Richman High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Hunter College in 1939. Mary worked throughout college and particularly enjoyed her job at the 1939 World's Fair. She married Thomas F. O'Brien, also of Manhattan, in 1943. They moved with their three sons to Manhasset in 1954 to provide them with a quality Catholic education at the St. Mary's Schools. She always instilled the importance of hard work and education in her sons. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Rosary Society. She also enjoyed her role as "Den Mother" for the cub scouts.
In 1958 Mary began her teaching career in the Bethpage School District. She taught both first and second grade at the former Pine Avenue School until 1982 and found great satisfaction in seeing her students develop their knowledge of reading, composition and mathematics. After retiring, she enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing, traveling, and reading, especially books by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Dick Francis. But, of course, nothing compared to her time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons, Donald of Manhasset, Kenneth of Manorville, and Richard of Lake Grove, her two sisters, Katherine Collins of Bellerose and Eileen Gronachon of Palo Alto, California, her four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Kelly O'Brien, Maureen Gray, and her two great grandchildren, Carter and Owen Gray.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Church by Monsignor John J. McCann. The burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
