Opinion

My wife and I, as empty nesters, decided in 2000 to downsize after 30 years in our home in Munsey Park. We wanted to stay in the area, preferably, in Manhasset, but there was little available. Luckily, a unit became available in Georgetown Commons, a 28-unit complex with no age restrictions. We were one of three units occupied by former Manhasset residents, now one of two. There are perhaps three or four school-age children living here now, so there is minimal burden on the school system, nor do we add much to local traffic.

We are members of Christ Church, and it saddens us to think that properly planned and sited senior housing on the church campus is viewed by many to cause undue traffic problems, be a burden on the school system, and ruin Manhasset as we know it. I think these fears are unfounded, and that senior housing will be good for the community.
