The Trustees and staff of Greentree Foundation will always remember Emile Bonjean with deep respect, profound gratitude, and abiding affection. He had been employed for many years by the Whitney family and was the indispensable person in the transformation of Greentree from a private home to a unique, welcoming environment in which visitors from around the world came to negotiate agreements and discuss issues of peace, social justice, and international cooperation. Through his extraordinary dedication, attention to detail, and exacting standards, he created an atmosphere conducive to conversation in which visitors sought greater understanding of critical global issues and their own common humanity. This remarkable man was a perfectionist who demanded much of himself and no less of those who worked with him. He had the uncommon ability to make visitors from all over the world immediately feel welcome and at ease. He was the embodiment of Greentree and his example, standards, and spirit will continue to guide us for years to come. All who knew him will always remember the indelible image of Emile opening the front door, smiling, extending his hand in friendship, and saying, "Welcome to Greentree."
