Are we heading for a recession? Are we presently in a recession? What challenges must Long Islanders face as the prices of medical care, oil and food steadily increase while home prices are falling? If you are struggling to find the answers to these questions and looking for suggestions on how to survive the current economic crisis facing Long Islanders, then you don't want to miss this important event presented by Sid Jacobson JCC's Adult Services Center.

Dr. Irwin Kellner

On Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m., one of the nation's best known and most quoted economists, Dr. Irwin Kellner, Chief Economist for MarketWatch.com, will discuss "The Economy and You," focusing on the unstable economy, how politics plays a role, and what Long Islanders can do to survive the current economic situation.

"If U.S. policy makers really want to help our ailing economy they will treat the cause of our problem, not the symptoms," says Dr. Kellner. "Unfortunately this is easier said than done. Treating the symptoms - a flagging economy, with falling sales and rising unemployment - is usually easier, since it does not require complicated explanations and can be tailored to fit the politician's preferences. For example, the Democrats can boost spending to help those on the low end of the income scale, while the Republicans can offer tax cuts for business and investors. This mix is exactly what's being discussed in Washington today."

Come hear this engaging speaker share his insights and real news you can use on how to protect yourself, your wallet and your future. Tickets cost $20 for non-members and $10 for members.

This program is presented by Sid Jacobson JCC's Adult Services Center with support from UJA Federation of New York, United Way and JCC Association. The Adult Services Center aims to meet the needs of the baby boomer generation through lifelong learning, intergenerational programming, volunteer opportunities and spiritual growth. The center offers a wide array of educational, recreational, cultural, social and religious programs for adults.
