Obituaries

Joseph Anthony Maleno, 85, formerly of Manhasset, died March 3, 2008 after a long stay in the Long Island State Veteran's Home in Stony Brook. Joseph was a WWII veteran, member of the Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus and St. Peter's Parish in Port Washington.

He attended Dartmouth College and Notre Dame University (where he claimed his name was O'Malen) after graduating in 1940 from Greenfield High School in Massachusetts. He moved to Long Island and worked in the New York City Garment Industry creating a division of David Crystal Fashions called Stony Brook. Survived by his seven children Mark, Lisa, Jeanine, JoAnne, Anetta (Anthony), Joseph Gary, Christopher (Deidra), 10 grandchildren, former wife Virginia and his sisters Grace (Ernest) Lapointe and Mary (Frank) Benedetti of Greenfield, MA. The wake was held at Fairchild & Sons, Manhasset, on March 6. Private family burial was at Calvery Cemetery in his beloved hometown, Greenfield, MA.
