Gerald S. Armstrong, 80, passed away on Feb. 10, 2008 in Atlantis, FL from complications due to multiple myeloma. A memorial service was performed at St. Matthew's Church of Lake Worth, FL.
Jerry Armstrong was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1927, and grew up in Brooklyn and Richmond Hill. Upon graduation from high school in May 1945, he immediately enlisted in the Marines. He later attended Hunter College and began working in sales in New York and Long Island, eventually establishing several businesses that manufactured and distributed a variety of household products. He was fortunate to attend a St. Patrick's Day party in Manhattan in 1951, where he met his future wife, Helen Maher. They were married the following year and lived in Manhasset from 1960 until 1998, when they moved to Atlantis, FL.
He enjoyed restoring old Fords from the 1930s and driving them around town. Re-connecting several times in Donegal, Ireland with his father's family was important to him and a source of much pleasure. Besides family, his greatest love was the camaraderie of playing golf with his friends at Plandome and later at Atlantis in Florida. He could tell a pretty good story in his day.
Jerry Armstrong is survived by his daughter Susan, of McLean, VA, and two sons, Scott of Chevy Chase, MD, and Neil of Lexington, KY as well as five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Helen, in June 2007.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice of Palm Beach County.
