On Jan. 29 at Suffolk County College, Manhasset's Kadeem Howell (12th) won the 55 meters (6.7") long jump (19'7 3/4") and the triple jump (43'2") to score 30 points for his team during the Conference VI Track Championships.
The championships consisted of seven-running events, four field events and three relay events with scoring being1st (10 pts.), 2nd (8 pts.), 3rd (6 pts.), 4th (4 pts.), 5th (2 pts.) and 6th (1 pt.). Seventeen different Manhasset athletes scored in the championship meet.
On the track, the middle distance scored 38 points with Joe Nassirian (10) scoring second in the 3200 meters, with a personal best (10:12.4); John Nestor (12) scoring second in the 1600 meters (4:48.4); David Knowles (11) scoring 4th in the 1000 meters (2:51.4) and Theo Baktidy (11) was 4th in (1:37.2) with Joe Zahn (10) scoring 6th in (1:37.5). Joe Zahn, Theo Baktidy, John Nestor and Andrew Choi (10th) ran to a second place in the 4x800 meter relay.
In other running events, Mario Gagliano (10) scoring a surprising (4th) in the 55-meter hurdles and Chase Cotter (12) was 6th in the 300 meters. David Knowles (11) and Joe Nassirian scored in the 1600 meters after their first races, 3200 meters and 1000 meters. A 4 x 400 meter relay team of Charlie Howell (10), Anthony Loschiavo (12), Jeff Izzo (11) and Richard Parsons (12) scored eight points for the team. The championship relay team was the 4 x 200 meters with Charlie Howell, Jeff Izzo, William McIntosh (12) and Chase. Cotter carrying the baton for 10 points.
The field event scored 56 points for the team - they have been strong all season with Howell's two victories and William McIntosh's (12) 2nd place in the Triple Jumps (8pts.), third place in the Long Jump (6 pts.), Shot-putters Chris Jordonne (12) - 3rd place (6 pts), Vincent Rizzo (12) 4th place (4 pts.) and Todd Sanders (12) 5h place (2 pts.). High Jumpers Chase Cotter finished 2nd for (8 pts.) and Todd Sanders(12) 5th for (2 pts.)
The team, now with great competition ahead of them and a (9-1) league record behind them, enter the championship part of their season.
