On Monday evening, Jan. 28, MWCABC had the opportunity to gather over 50 volunteers at Cafe Continental to thank them for their efforts in helping to raise over $260,000 this past year. It is due to these hard-working and dedicated volunteers and the very generous community that we reside in that we are able to contribute to the research projects that we do, as well as the outreach support that we provide for our community. In attendance at our thank you event were world-renowned researchers from Columbia University's Institute of Cancer Genetics, Dr. Benjamin Tycko, professor of Pathology, and Dr. Ramon Parsons, associate professor of Pathology and Medicine (also a Manhasset resident). These researchers were most grateful for the $90,000 of funding the Coalition provided for Dr. Tycko's project entitled, "MSNP for Profiling DNA Methylation in Human Breast Cancers." The Coalition's primary fundraising recipient this year, receiving a grant of $100,000, was Dr. Gabriela Chiosis of Memorial Sloan-Kettering for her project "Targeting Basal-like Breast Cancer via Purine-Scaffold Hsp90 Inhibitors."
This has been an outstanding year for the MWCABC. Thank you very much to all those who have chosen to support us.

President, MWCABC
We would like to express our gratitude for such an amazing response to Manhasset SEPTA's fundraiser at Barnes & Noble the weekend of Jan. 25. SEPTA's Children's Art Show and book drive raised funds to create a new special needs parent resource section in the Manhasset Library.
As stated in last week's Manhasset Press, $9,000 is the total amount spent by supporters during our three-day event. Of that total gross revenue, Barnes & Noble is donating 20 percent-that's nearly $2,000-to SEPTA for our book drive. This $2,000 will be used for purchasing new books and viewing material for the library's special need parent section.
Manhasset SEPTA is grateful for all whose hard work made this fundraiser possible. Our endless gratitude to event chairperson Andrea Costello, not only for bringing this opportunity to SEPTA, but for handling nearly every aspect of the three-day event! Thank you also to Karen Vigliotti for all her efforts to make the art show an overwhelming success. Elementary school art teachers Mr. Fay and Ms. Safren, as well as the school principals, Dr. Kendall and Mr. Geczik-we greatly appreciate your embracing and supporting our children's art show idea and encouraging the children to express the art show's theme of "I Can Make a Difference."
A big thank you to nearly 320 children who showed us all what a fabulous difference you do make. To all the families, parents and friends who came to the art show, weekend events and generously supported our fundraiser-thank you for making a difference too!
What a difference we all made together! We are able to provide current materials and create a needed public resource for all to use. The special needs parent resource section, which will be located in the children's library on the third floor, will offer a range of books and viewing material on various disabilities, special needs, gifted and talented. We hope it will serve and benefit our community and its residents.
Thank you again, Manhasset!
