Playing with only six girls, St. Mary's fifth-grade team coached by Chris Jones and Charlie Albanese defeated St. Peter's on Saturday 26-19 in a hard fought game. Najiah Redford led all scorers with 20 points and had help with baskets from Alexa Durso, Alyssa Hogan, and Courtney Marino. Julie McCooey controlled the boards with 8 rebounds and Elizabeth Jones continued her stellar defensive play with 2 steals and 2 rebounds. The girls followed up that victory with a win on Sunday against Our Lady of Victory, 24-19. St. Mary's had four girls contribute to the scoring with Najiah Redford scoring 12, and Alexa Durso, Julie McCooey, and Francesca Sostar scoring 4 points each. Elizabeth Jones and Courtney Marino continued their stellar defensive play with 2 steals each, while Alyssa Hogan and Melissa Kline controlled the defensive and offensive boards.
St. Mary's sixth-grade girls team coached by Kevin Wilshere, Steve George and Jorge Garca played two very competitive games this past weekend. On Saturday, St. Mary's lost to St. Frances 25-23. Sydney DeHaan, Riley Garcia and Caitlin Gleason lead St. Mary's in scoring. On Sunday, St. Mary's defeated St. Boniface 18-14. Nicole George, Elizabeth Bunger and Caitlin Gleason scored timely baskets to seal the victory.
Despite dropping their game to a tough St. Vincent's team on Saturday, the St. Mary's fifth-grade girl's team coached by Peter Barcia and Devon Beresheim rallied back on Sunday to beat St. Aidan's 24 -12 with tenacious defense by Amanda Keogh, Delia O'Brien and Madeline Barcia. On offense, Chelsea Taylor, Sarah Philips and Annie Beresheim were unstoppable.
The sixth grade girls team coached by Bob Hart and Jim Crosson split a pair of games this weekend with 18-16 win over St. Raymonds and 27-24 loss vs. St. Catherine's. The leading scorer for both games was Ally Hart. Olivia Belinsky lead the team with 15 steals and Haley Crosson provided outstanding play on both ends of the court. Emily Papa played very aggressive defense and scored on a pair of fast breaks. In the game vs. St. Raymond's the entire team scored at least one basket. Christina Ottaviana and Morven Whalley played great under the boards and Caitlin Whitaker and Sydney Young provided solid all around play.
