Neither rain, nor sleet ... nor even more rain! On Sunday, Oct. 28, The Coalition for a Safer Manhasset (CSM) held Manhasset's 3rd Annual "Safety Day," a community event at the Mary Jane Davies Park. Manhasset families enjoyed a day of raffle prizes, face painting, pumpkin painting and a very popular moon bounce/ slide/ obstacle course. The extremely generous men and women of Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and the Nassau County Police Department's 6th Precinct donated their time to be a part of Safety Day. Manhasset-Lakeville brought fire trucks, ambulances and a "house-fire evacuation" training vehicle for safety presentations, and the 6th Precinct Police Officers gave important safety tips and personally spoke to all attendees to help educate Manhasset on important safety issues. The American Legion, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts presided over the opening ceremony and assisted in the day's events.

Of course, while it was a fun-filled day for Manhasset's children, the seriousness of Manhasset's safety issue was prominently demonstrated when 6th Precinct Police Officers had to halt their discussions with Manhasset families to stop a "road rage" incident between two drivers on Manhasset Avenue from escalating. Even on Safety Day, Manhasset residents are at risk. CSM cannot express enough thanks to the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Nassau County Police Department's 6th Precinct, the American Legion, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the generous Manhasset and Port Washington businesses who donated so many gifts to the raffle. CSM would like to note that the very generous winner of the raffle immediately donated her impressive monetary prize right back to CSM, to ensure that Safety Day will be a continuing success.
