Opinion

This Sunday, Nov. 11, marks the commemoration of Veterans Day. At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, in 1918, an Armistice was signed ending World War I. That is why today, we dedicate November 11 as a day to remember the sacrifices of all those heroes who fought (and continue to fight) to preserve freedom for all Americans.

Each year that I attend the Veterans Day ceremony at The Mary Jane Davies Park, I am disappointed that more Manhasset residents do not choose to take the opportunity to thank our Veterans at this time. The ceremony is brief, yet beautiful. It fills me with a sense of gratitude toward our American heroes who risk their lives so that we may live in peace in our great country.

I am asking you, my friends and neighbors, to come to the Gold Star Monument in Mary Jane Davies Park on this Sunday, November 11th at 11 a.m., and say "thank you" to our Vets, our Heroes. God Bless America!
