Saint Mary's Elementary School has appointed Amy Delmore as its first girls' soccer coach, effective immediately. A four-year letter-winner at Adelphi University, from which she graduated with a BA in Physical Education in 2006, Delmore brings versatility in many sports and a stellar local athletic reputation to her teaching and coaching duties.

Amy Delmore just began her second year as assistant coach for the Adelphi softball team where, as second baseman for the Adelphi Panthers, she was a 2005 NFCA Second-team All-American and ECC Player of the Year. Her collegiate career also saw her earn second-team All-ECC honors in 2004 and she was a third-team selection in 2006, her graduation year.

"I'm delighted to be with the Saint Mary's Elementary School faculty," said Delmore as she took St. Mary's girls to their historic first game at Kellenberg on Wednesday Oct. 3. "I hope to help the girls' awareness of themselves as female athletes and make them interested in continuing their sports at a high school and college level, to enjoy sports as much as I did at elementary and high school."

As a 2002 graduate of St. Mary's College Preparatory High School, playing soccer, basketball and softball there, Delmore is amazed by the transformation of Denihan Field into state-of-the-art turf, and thrilled to see the elementary school's new gymnasium--and wide range of extra-curricular programs--that provide her with the opportunity to teach Physical Education to a new generation of St. Mary's students.

"Amy's appointment will be a huge boost to our expanding athletic department, with boys' soccer already thriving," said St. Mary's Elementary School Principal Celeste M. Checchia, PhD. "A versatile and talented athletic coach, she brings experience, energy and leadership to our Phys. Ed. department. The girls have a tough first-ever schedule running to November, but will learn much about athletics under Amy's leadership."
