A tough early season schedule and a young team contributed to a slow start for the MHS Boys Swim Team (0-2 Conference, 0-4 overall). The development of the younger swimmers sparked a complete turnaround as the Indians finished the season by winning six of their last seven conference meets. The most recent victories over Bethpage 96-87 and Uniondale 58-41 guaranteed the team a winning record (6-3 Conference, 6-5 Overall).

The turnaround was marked by many significant improvements and personal best swims.

Senior Mike Gotimer swam a 24.71 in the 50-yd freestyle, 31.02 in the 50-yd breaststroke, 56.6 in the 100-yd freestyle and 1:06.78 in the 100-yd butterfly.

Junior Brian Kim clocked a 34.74 in the 50-yd backstroke, 1:19.34 in the 100-yd backstroke and a 1:02.77 in the 100-yd freestyle. Kevin Love swam a 1:14.80 in the 100-yd backstroke. Matt Carrozzo swam a 1:02.84 in the 100-yd freestyle. Omid Morshed improved by 18 seconds from his previous best performance in the 500-yd freestyle by swimming a 7:36.23. Angelo Pegno swam a 1:19.62 in the 100-yd butterfly and a 1:29.90 in the 100-yd breaststroke. Jacky Yeh swam a 30.06 in the 50-yd freestyle. Connor Bennet swam a 1:12.16 in the 100-yd freestyle.

Sophomore Mike Yee swam a personal best 30.44 in the 50-yd backstroke, 1:08.16 in the 100-yd backstroke, 1:11.12 in the 100-yd butterfly, 2:31.20 in the 200-yd IM and 6:12.23 in the 500-yd freestyle. Max Smitham swam a 2:31.81 in the 200-yd IM, 25.72 in the 50-yd freestyle, 1:10.71 in the 100-yd butterfly and 6:18.45 in the 500-yd freestyle. Brian Tam swam a 1:20.22 in the 100-yd breaststroke. Paul Faglione swam a 2:28.77 in the 200-yd freestyle, 1:10.08 in the 100-yd freestyle and 28.55 in the 50-yd freestyle. John Maisano swam a 28.08 in the 50-yd freestyle. Ty Louis swam a 2:41.53 in the 200-yd IM and a 1:16.82 in the 100-yd butterfly.

The freshmen were led by Jeff Yau who swam a personal best 2:32.43 in the 200-yd IM, 34.24 in the 50-yd backsroke and a 1:11.13 in the 100-yd backstroke. Stephen Cobos swam a 2:17.70 in the 200-yd freestyle and a 6:33.61 in the 500-yd freestyle. Paul Stathis swam a 6:38.39 in the 500-yd freestyle and a 1:25.75 in the 100-yd backstroke. Pat Love swam a personal best 7:34.32 in the 500-yd freestyle, shaving 19 seconds off of his previous best. Christian Kapper swam a 1:08.57 in the 100-yd freestyle. Andrew Choi swam a 2:56.96 in the 200-yd freestyle.
