Wachovia Bank Seeks Variance for Separate Two-Bay Drive-Through
It was a grassroots movement to put up a road block for the proposed two-bay drive through sought by Wachovia Bank at the former Lessing's Restaurant site that would create an exit for the drive-through close to the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Plandome Road. The Coalition for a Safer Manhasset (CSM), Bayview Civic Association and other town residents claimed that it is already a very congested area and mobilized to inform the town Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) they were against granting a variance to the bank.

Board of Education Appoints Audit Committee Members
The Manhasset Board of Education has appointed three community residents to serve on its 2006-07 five-member audit committee. They are: Geralyn Cannella, Mark Pappas and Gene Pesci. The board officially appointed these individuals at its Jan. 4, board meeting, at which they were sworn in by Jack Feldman, district counsel. Also serving on the committee are board members Aline Khatchadourian and Carlo Prinzo.

MHS Boys Track Team Wins Conference Relay Championship
Manhasset's Varsity Indoor Tack team won the 800-meter relay at the Conference VI Championships on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Farmingdale College. In an exciting race - Kodeem Howell (11), William McIntosh (11), Shea Licata (11) and Chase Cotter (11), outran 10 other teams for the championship and gold medals.

First Athletic Director for Saint Mary's Elementary School
Saint Mary's Elementary School has appointed Debbie Meyer as its first athletic director, effective immediately. A resident of Plandome, Debbie is known for many things: mother, athlete - platform tennis star, tireless organizer and alumna of both St. Mary's Elementary and High School.
