Craig Johnson to Run for Balboni's State Senate Seat
Nassau County Legislator Craig Johnson has been unanimously selected as the Democratic candidate for the 7th District State Senate Special Election called for Tuesday, Feb. 6. Members of the selection committee and Nassau Democratic Party joined Johnson to celebrate his selection when he announced his candidacy last week.
Manhasset Community Fund Reinstates Boy Scout Council
The board of directors of the Manhasset Community Fund voted last week to reinstate the local Boy Scout Council as a grant recipient. Over a year ago, the community fund decided that, due to its fiduciary duties to its donors, it could not make grants to any national organization with policies that could be viewed as discriminatory. The Boy Scouts was dropped as a supported group because of that decision. This was a hotly debated issue for, while it supported our nation's deep-rooted principles of non-discrimination, it was detrimental to the local Boy Scout troops.
Manhasset Hockey Club Picks Up Another Win
This past weekend the Manhasset Middle School Hockey Club scored an impressive 3-0 shutout win over Syosset in a game played at Iceworks in Syosset. With the win, Manhasset actually exceeded the team's win total for the entire season last year, which was the programs inaugural season. Just past the half way mark of the season a playoff spot remains a possibility. Coach Kevin Smith said after the game that he was pleased with the progress that the team has shown this year and with the effort put out by each and every member of the team in this game in particular. He was optimistic that that effort would translate into more wins.
Danielle Gallagher Inducted Into US Lacrosse Hall of Fame
On Nov. 11, 2006 one of the highest honors in men's and women's lacrosse was bestowed on Danielle Gallagher, graduate of Manhasset High School in 1985, that of being inducted into the US National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
