The monthly meeting of the board of trustees of the Village of Munsey Park focused almost entirely on the road construction initiative. Ken Pritchard of the design firm of Dvirka & Bartilucci presented a lengthy report.
There is steady progress taking place in readiness for the actual roadwork, which it is hoped, will begin in the spring. There will be a bidding period for which a design plan is being prepared.
The tentative work schedule will extend from April through October for 2007 with the belief that additional work will be needed in the subsequent year. It is planned that the inconvenience to the village residents will be as minimal as can be expected with a project of this magnitude. All residents will receive ample notice before the work on their street begins. In addition, the local utilities will be notified that this work is taking place so that digging can be coordinated if needed.
The order of the repairs and resurfacing will be determined with an eye to not taking out major parallel roadways at the same time. All gutter replacements and intersection repairs will receive priority attention to try to alleviate problems.
As the plan develops, the specific order of street repairs will be available at the village hall. The chosen streets for the entire project are already available. You are welcome to call the village hall or to stop by for a look at the latest design.
Pritchard also reported on the renovation that is needed to upgrade Copley Pond. The work will include a drainage structure to alleviate the overflow concerns, lighting improvements, geese control measures and pond edge stabilization. The work for this project is also being readied for the bidding process.
In the final minutes of the meeting it was decided that additional signage would be erected near the Munsey Park School, on Hunt Lane, to prohibit standing as well as parking. This will be done so that the police can ensure a safer walkway for the children who do not take the bus.
