On Friday, Dec. 15, I was parked in front of the Manhasset Post Office on Maple Place between 1:15 and 2 p.m. (approximately). My son was in the car, while I ran into the post office and Dunkin' Donuts and a woman in a green Hummer backed into my car and caused damage. Rather than check out what she did and/or give my son her telephone number or ask him to get me, she took off. Witnesses came forward, the green Hummer has been seen around often and we have the license plate on a cell phone camera; as if that were not enough, the post office has the entire accident on videotape.
My son has suggested because he was in shock for a moment and did not react, perhaps she thought nothing happened to the car. He asked me to give her a chance. So, here we are giving her the benefit of the doubt. I would like to take this opportunity to let this woman know "you caused an accident and need to take responsibility for the damage." I will give you one week from the printing of this letter to contact me at 627-9147. I truly hope to hear from you. If not, this becomes a criminal offense (hit and run) and you will be arrested. Needless to say, several points will go on your license and you will still have to take responsibility for the damages. My intention is not to seem harsh, but to convey the harsh reality if I must get the police involved. May this letter serve as my commitment to keep this between you and me as long as I hear from you within the week of this printing.
In the spirit of Christmas ...
Your neighbor,
