Several local laws were adopted on Dec. 4, at the last meeting of the Flower Hill Board of Trustees. If you are thinking of having a fireworks display, be sure that you apply for a permit. This is one of the changes that the new local law (#4 ) requires. It is no longer permissible to set off a fireworks display within the village boundaries nor is it permissible to store a dumpster in your driveway without a permit (local law# 7) or to have a temporary storage facility without prior permission from the village (local law #7). Local law #6 requires that the perimeter of a site being used for construction, renovation or demolition, if certain conditions exist, must be encircled by a temporary chain link fence. Specific fence requirements and site descriptions are available at the Village Hall. The new local laws were adopted unanimously by the trustees and the mayor and are designed to improve the quality of life in the village.
Notaro Grupp & Associates presented a site plan for a new Greek seafood restaurant to be located on Northern Boulevard at the site of the old Saturn dealership. The board reviewed the plan and addressed the following residents' concerns: after-hours lighting, the kitchen exhaust system, fencing materials, and the height of the lighting fixture poles. The site plan was approved but the board reserved the right to require further modifications should they be needed.
After a very long and complex journey, a resolution accepting the adoption of Walter Lane finally made it to approval. The unanimous decision of the board was part of the process that former Mayor John Walter stated "has taken 20 years." The roadway will become part of Flower Hill and will be maintained by the village if the public hearing to be held on Jan. 8, 2007 proceeds smoothly. If you wish to be heard on this matter, please notify the village clerk, Leslie Taggard before the meeting.
The representative of Joanne's Pizza, architect Angelo Francis Corva, presented a request for a special exception permit to allow for the construction of a side entrance for deliveries. The matter will be discussed at a public hearing on Jan. 8, 2007.
A moment of silence was held to mark the passing of Susanne Kreischer the court clerk. Susanne served in that capacity for many years and died suddenly in November. She will be greatly missed.
