The Manhasset Board of Education has approved a resolution calling for a Bond Referendum to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. The board took the action at its Dec. 7 meeting. The vote will be held in the MHS Gymnasium from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Residents must be registered to vote.
The approved resolution identifies building projects and reads as follows:
RESOLVED:
(a) That the Board of Education of the Manhasset Union Free School District, in the County of Nassau, New York, (the "District"), is hereby authorized to undertake a building improvement project (the "Project") substantially as referred to and described in an outline prepared for the District by John A. Grillo Associates, Architects, P.C., Port Jefferson, New York (the "Plan"), which Plan is on file and available for public inspection in the office of the District Clerk, said Project consisting of the construction of improvements and alterations to all District school buildings and the sites thereof, including (as and where necessary): roof reconstruction and/or replacements; masonry improvements, including, exterior wall and column reconstruction; improvements to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, lighting, mechanical, plumbing, fire, security and communication systems; interior space reconstruction; technology upgrades; window, door, ceiling, locker, stair, ramp and floor replacements; improvements to facilitate access by the physically challenged; and sidewalk, curb, and pavement improvements; all of the foregoing to include the original furnishings, equipment, machinery, apparatus and ancillary or related site, demolition and other work required in connection therewith; and to expend therefor, including preliminary costs and costs incidental thereto and to the financing thereof, an amount not to exceed the estimated total cost of $19,059,810; provided that the detailed costs of the components of the Project as set forth in detail in the Report may be reallocated among such components if the Board of Education shall determine that such reallocation is in the best interests of the District and no material change shall be made in the scope of the Project;
(b) that $1,875,000 is hereby appropriated from the Capital Reserve Fund heretofore approved by the voters on May 16, 2006, and such sum is hereby authorized to be expended and applied to pay a portion of the cost of the roof improvements at the High School/Middle School;
(c) that a tax is hereby voted in the aggregate amount of not to exceed $17,184,810 to finance the balance of said estimated total cost, such tax to be levied by and collected in installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by said Board of Education;
(d) that in anticipation of said tax, bonds of the District are hereby authorized to be issued in the aggregate principal amount of not to exceed $17,184,810 and a tax is hereby voted to pay the interest on said bonds as the same shall become due and payable; and
(e) that the District has been (i) allotted and expects to receive Expanding our Children's Education and Learning ("EXCEL") aid from the State of New York (the "State") in the amount of $919,399, and (ii) also expects to receive additional State building aid to pay a portion of the estimated total cost of the Project; and, accordingly, the amount of taxes herein authorized to be levied will be offset and reduced by the aggregate amount of any EXCEL aid and other State building aid received by the District on account of the Project.

Qualified residents who are not registered to vote may do so in the district clerk's office, at Manhasset Secondary School on any day when school is in session. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Voter registration will also take place by members of the board of registration on Friday, January 26, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Manhasset High School Office of Community Relations.
Absentee ballot applications are available by request from the district clerk. If the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, the completed application must be received by the district clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2007.
If the ballot is to be delivered personally by the voter, the completed application must be received by the district clerk no later than 5 p.m., Feb. 6, 2007.
