Christmas Tree Lighting - What a Difference a Year Makes
"Oh, the weather outside is frightful" - and it was, all day, but not during the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 1 at the gazebo on the Mary Jane Davies Green. It was blustery, threatening rain and unseasonably warm, but the crowd gathered as it does every year. The Manhasset Park District in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead, Americana Manhasset and Laffey Associates hosted the annual ceremony.
Board Hears Preliminary Audit Report and Discusses Bond Referendum
Two special presentations were the focus of the Nov. 30 Manhasset Board of Education Public Work Session. The first was a preliminary overview of the district's draft audited financial statements for the 2005-06 school year, presented by Vincent Cullen, district external auditor. The second presentation was an exploratory discussion related to a bond referendum addressing districtwide infrastructure.
Girl's and Boy's Sports Round-Up
*The sixth grade St. Mary's girls team coached by Barbara Kiggins and Jerry Vanderberg rang up three more victories and improved their record to 7 - 0. St. Mary's defeated St. Aidan's 25-22 in overtime behind the scoring of Chez DeLuca, Caitlin Vanderberg, Michele Bruno, Jennifer Kiggins and Katie Coffee. Caitlin Vanderberg scored four of her points from the foul line in overtime. Next up was a 27 - 24 victory over Notre Dame behind the scoring of DeLuca, Vanderberg, Bruno, Jessica Berestecki and Catarina Russo who scored her first basket. Kayla Feeney and Tiffany Adrien had many rebounds with Ariana Celifarco, Kate Brescia, Laura Trocchia and Demi Karagiannis playing strong defense. They then defeated Corpus Christi 26 - 22 behind the scoring of DeLuca, Bruno, Berestecki, Vanderberg and Coffee. Kiggins, Brescia and Celifarco had many assists. Feeney and Adrien had many rebounds. Russo and Karagiannis played strong defense.
MHS Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Annual Holiday Tournaments
The girls host the 23rd annual Barbara Hoffman Tournament featuring St. Mary's, New Rochelle and Westbury. The girls open on Friday night, the first game is at 6 p.m. and the Manhasset girls play Westbury at 8 p.m. All girls participating in CYO are urged to attend the game and if you wear your St. Mary's CYO jersey, you will get in free and receive a raffle ticket for prizes. There will be drawings throughout the Manhasset game.
