This past Sunday in only their seventh game of the season the Manhasset Middle School Hockey Team posted their third win of the season, nearly equaling their win total for all of their inaugural season last year. Their coach, Kevin Smith, noted how the teams' growth is attributable to the development and maturity of the team's seventh- and eighth-graders and the valuable contributions of a talented group of sixth-graders, who joined the squad this year. Said Coach Smith, "We're certainly looking forward to sustaining our effort throughout the season."

Sunday's 7 to 2 victory over Locust Valley reflected Manhasset's winning formula this year, getting contributions from everyone. Chris Brzozowski scored two goals and assisted on another. Michael Fahey continued his impressive play with two goals and an assist. Drew Duque scored and assisted on another goal. Also tallying goals were Andrew Boisselle and Matthew Kowalski. John Stevenson had two assists. He, together with Ryan Montgomery, Johnny Hannon, and Doug Aaron anchored a solid defensive effort that kept the opposition off the scoreboard until late in the third period. This was all the more impressive in light of the absence of defenseman Patrick DePippo, who was sidelined with an injury. AJ Garbus made a number of solid hits and together with line mates Louis Liberta and Ryan Begley were relentless in pursuing the puck all game long. Joey Watts and James Carr shared time in goal and both came up with big saves during their respective stints between the pipes. Team members Nick Billotto, Peter Grey, John Henry and Evan Pritsiolas were unavailable to play.

The varsity team begins play with a game against Sewanhaka at Iceworks in Syosset on Wednesday Nov. 15 at 9:30.
