ESL Presentation, Munsey Park Predicament and District Cohesiveness
There was a large crowd at the Oct. 18 school board meeting held in the Shelter Rock auditorium. Shelter Rock sixth-grade students were acknowledged for their participation in the New Parents Welcome of Sept. 12, Dan Karges was introduced as the student representative to the board of education, and the members of the school board were thanked for expending so much energy and so many hours in their volunteer positions on the board. Oct. 23-27 had been designated by the State as Board Recognition Week and members of the administration, staff, community and students thanked the board members for their service to the community.

Historic Moment: First Automated Postal Center Opens in Manhasset
First it was pump your own gas, then scan your own groceries and now, with the grand opening of the first Automated Postal Center at the Strathmore Post Office at 1900 Northern Boulevard, it is also process your own mail. The official ribbon cutting ceremony was Oct. 30 when postal officials joined with community and government leaders to officially launch the automated center.

St. Mary's 6th Grade Basketball
St. Mary's 6th grade basketball team coached by Barbara Kiggins and Jerry Vanderberg defeated St. Peter's 40-36. Arianna Celifarco, Tiffany Adrien, Jennifer Kiggins and Katie Coffey each scored their first basket of the season. St. Mary's had strong rebounding from Jessica Berestecki, Kayla Feeney and Kate Brescia. Scoring was led by Ches DeLuca and Michele Bruno. Caitlin Vanderberg had numerous assists and Demi Karagiannis and Caterina Russo were aggressive on the defensive end.

St. Mary's High School Golf and Tennis Classic
Saint Mary's High School Alumni Association of Manhasset raised over $170,000 for academic and athletic programs at Saint Mary's College Preparatory High School at its 14th annual Don Monti Golf & Tennis Classic. All of the proceeds will be used for academic and athletic programs at St. Mary's, and over 100 alumni and friends gathered to support the Gaels Alumni Association and its honored guests on a balmy September day at Plandome Country Club.
