Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. is the second annual Safety Day hosted by the Coalition for a Safer Manhasset. The event will take place in the large Manhasset Park District parking lot on Manhasset Avenue. The rain date for Safety Day is Sunday, Oct. 29 with festivities beginning at noon.

The goal of Safety Day is to raise awareness among residents about the need for better pedestrian safety in our community and to educate our residents about the "rules of the road" when it comes to pedestrians. Attendees can learn about fire safety, pedestrian and motorist responsibilities, see demonstrations of reverse cameras and bumper sensors, have their child car seat inspected (by appointment only: 573-6670), and be educated on many other aspects of safety. For family fun there will be a moon bounce, DJ, crafts, refreshments and a Halloween costume contest and parade. In addition, the Manhasset Homecoming Parade will pass by on Manhasset Avenue and Safety Day will offer prime viewing.

All Manhasset community groups have been invited to attend and set up a table at Safety Day. Participants to include, but not limited to, Manhasset CASA, Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Rotary of Manhasset, Mother's Group and Hugs Across America.

CSM's annual raffle drawing will be held with Manhasset elementary school principals Dr. Jean Kendall and Mr. Robert Geczik doing the honors of drawing the winning tickets at 1 p.m. Grand prizes include an iPod Shuffle, Dinner for Two at Café Continental and a gift certificate to Nubest. In addition, local merchants have generously donated dozens of other prizes. Without the ongoing support of these merchants and community groups, CSM could not continue with its efforts to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment in Manhasset and address the traffic safety concerns of our residents. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at Safety Day up until 1p.m.

Honored guests will include Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli, Nassau County Legislator Lisanne Altmann, Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, and Town Clerk Michelle Schimmel, Councilmen Wayne Wink and Fred Pollack. The opening ceremony for Safety Day will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Special thanks to our sponsors for the event: Hierarchy Architect & Design, Nancy H. Morris State Farm Agency, Americana Mortgage Group and the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce. In addition, CSM would like to recognize the support of the Manhasset Park District and the Manhasset Public Schools and the many individuals who generously offer their time to help CSM in its efforts.
