The Spinathon is a fundraiser to help support Manhasset's John McConnell in his efforts to raise money for the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Only 359 days after breaking his neck in two places, John McConnell will be running the 2006 NYC Marathon, while raising money for the Christopher Reeve Foundation. John was facing a long recovery after his accident and decided that he needed a goal to help keep motivated while undergoing months of physical therapy. His goal was to train for and run in the 2006 NYC Marathon. Less than one year from the day in which John broke his neck, he will run the NYC Marathon in celebration of his amazing recovery while at the same time raise money for the Christopher Reeve Foundation. "I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles," Christopher Reeve, Superman, said. "They are the real heroes, and so are the families and friends who have stood by them."

The "Superman" Spinathon will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Equinox Fitness Club, 90 Northern Boulevard, Roslyn. The contribution is $20 for a one-hour ride and $50 for the "Superman" challenge - all three rides. Membership to Equinox is not required to participate, and the donation is tax deductible. Please call the Roslyn Equinox Fitness Club at 403-4444 or stop by the front desk to reserve your spot. Please make checks payable to the Christopher Reeve Foundation. (www.christopherreeve.org).
