Am I the only resident who was a little angry one evening last week?
My daughter and I showed up at the high school tennis courts a little before 7 p.m. on a Friday night to find each one occupied-with a teaching pro giving lessons. One pro had the audacity to lay out markers on the court for the kiddies to try to hit.
We left the courts for a little while and returned after 7 p.m. thinking that the top of the hour would be the end of the lessons, but no luck. There were two young men patiently waiting for a court, but the lessons continued.
I love seeing parents bring their children, no matter what their age, to teach them this wonderful game. I'll wait patiently for them every time. And I don't mind their stray balls at all. But these courts are for public use, and it is against the rules, and common courtesy, for these "pros" to be giving lessons at our facility.
While I'm on the subject, it is also against the rules, and courtesy, for people to dominate a court for more than one hour. A number of times we've had to wait for a court, play our hour, and note that the same people are still playing after we leave. Some come with coolers and seem to take turns on and off making a day of it. I see nothing wrong with spending the day unless the courts are full and others are turned away.
This is not new this week, it has been going on for years. Last night just pushed me to a new level of angry. I've notified the high school in years past, but the school hasn't the facility to police the courts properly. We're on our own. Please show proper courtesy when using the courts so that we may all enjoy them. If you or your kids need a teaching pro, there are plenty of other facilities available to you. If you want to teach them yourselves and spend the best "quality time" in the world with your own children, come and join us.
