Lucia Terzi Bagan

Lucia Terzi Bagan, 47, of Manhasset and Southampton, NY died on August 15, 2006 after a 3 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. Lucia was born on Long Island, attended Holy Trinity and earned a degree in fashion photography from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Her love of the beach brought her to the east end of Long Island where she made her home and began her career in restaurant management.

Living in the Hamptons, Lucia developed an appreciation for fine food, wine, gourmet cooking and landscape photography and it is there that she met and married her husband Dan. The Bagans settled in Manhasset to raise their children Luciano, 7 and Daniela, 4 while maintaining their ties to the East End.

Helping others was a priority for Lucia. She was instrumental in forming the Outreach Committee of the Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer. Lucia always had time for family and friends and leaves behind many who will never forget her bravery, spirit and love.

Lucia Bagan was the beloved wife of Daniel and loving mother of Luciano and Daniela. She was the beloved daughter of Giustino and Paula (Monte) Terzi, and dear sister of Barbara, Justin and Joseph Terzi.

Visitation was held Aug. 16 and 17 at the O'Connell Funeral Home in Southampton and a funeral service was held Aug. 18, 2006 at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Bridgehampton. Interment was at Southampton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Fork Breast Health Coalition, 35 Farmstead Lane, Watermill, NY 11976 and to the Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer, Outreach Program, P.O. Box 1007, Manhasset, NY 11030.

Robert Edward Doyle died on Aug. 4, 2006 from complications following surgery for a fractured hip. He was 76 years old and a Manhasset resident for 27 years. Dr. Doyle was professor emeritus at St. John's University where he worked for 35 years.

Born in Valley Stream on Dec. 25, 1929, Robert Doyle was the son of John Joseph and Madeleine Kappé Doyle. Robert served as 2nd lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded a BS in mathematics from Iona College, receiving the Mathematics Medal for Highest Achievement. He worked as a mathematics teacher in West Hempstead and continued his studies at New York University, receiving his MA and PhD in counselor education. During his studies he worked as a counselor and an assistant professor at Iona College. He became a professor at St. John's University, serving terms as chairman of the Department of Counselor Education and acting dean of the School of Education.

Dr. Doyle was well known in his field for his distinguished professional achievements. Active in many professional organizations, he served as president of the North Atlantic Regional Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, president of the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling, and on the board of directors of the St. John's University chapter of the AAUP. Dr. Doyle researched and published numerous journal articles, book chapters and a textbook, Essential Skills & Strategies in the Helping Process. He also served as a reviewer of several professional publications and evaluated counselor education programs around the country.

Among his many credits, Dr. Doyle was the recipient of two National Science Foundation Grants for graduate studies at Princeton University and the University of Notre Dame; the American Counseling Association Certificate of Appreciation; the Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling Life Membership Award; the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Outstanding Mentor Award; the Iona College Alumni Association Loftus Award for Outstanding Achievement in Education; the John Henry Newman Honor Society Honor Key Award; the St. John's University Outstanding Faculty Achievement Award; and he was listed as an outstanding American in Who's Who in America.

An avid skier, he was a founding member and president of the North Shore Ski Club.

Robert is survived by his wife Madeleine, his daughters Jeanne Marie and Kristina, and his brother John Doyle. His sister Madeleine Doyle Ret predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Msgr. William C. Harms, his cousin, was the celebrant. Fr. Edward Doran; Msgr. John J. McCann; Fr. Joseph V. Daly, C.M., assistant to president of St. John's; Fr. James Dorr, C.M.; and Fr. Tri Minh Duong, C.M. were the concelebrants.

Donations may be made in memory of Robert E. Doyle to the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation Robert Carroll Legacy Fund, PO Box 587, Annapolis, MD 21404-0587, (800) 747-2820. Blood and platelet donations would also honor his memory.

Barbara Josephine Dalton was born April 14, 1937 in Glen Cove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Sabina Yakacki of Port Washington. She lived and attended school in Port Washington. For five years she worked as a communications supervisor with New York Bell in Manhasset. She then married Ernest J. Dalton and they were married for 48 years. Barbara is survived by her husband Ernest; children, Brett, Darren, Shawn and Kimberly Townsend; and four grandchildren.

Barbara loved her hobbies: crafts, bowling, camping, cooking and taking care of injured birds and other animals. She was known as the "Bird Lady of Latigo Drive." Children in the neighborhood and tree trimmers would bring her orphaned birds for her to care for.

A memorial service was held at the Marbach Christian Church on Aug. 23. Her final resting place will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in Barbara's name at the American Cancer Society and the Bexar County Humane Society. Barbara's family would like to thank everyone for the support they have given in this time of need.
